Welcome To My Journal
“Great is thy faithfulness,
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hast provided;
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.” - Thomas Chisholm
This well-known hymn has echoed in my church for as long as I remember. Its words are special in my family, as I’m sure they are for many others. Written by Thomas Chisholm in 1923, it marks a centennial landmark in many hearts.
I have had many mountain-top moments since arriving at college. In fact, my eighteenth year sets the bar really high for future years in terms of amazing experiences (the crazy thing is, I still have over a month left).
However, one of my convictions is that when I get to the top, I tend to just sit there and enjoy the view. Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the beauties of the blessings God has afforded to you, but I think it is important to take at least a minute to turn around and look at the path you took to get to this point. When you begin to do that, you start to notice a fairly consistent trend.
One time, immediately after one of these mountain-top moments, I was finishing up a phone call with my mother, sharing how God had blessed me more than I could ever have imagined in that experience, and she asked me, 'Where are you writing all of this down?' Because this is not something you want to forget.
That challenged me. I thought about times I was amazed by God’s blessings, but later forgot them and doubted His faithfulness during trials. My mom’s suggestion helped me start documenting these blessings for ‘rainy days’. I liked the idea and added it to my to-do list—finally returning a month and a half later, today. I realize the resistance comes from forces that don’t want me focused on gratitude or building an archive of God’s blessings—because this would only make me more grateful and passionate. I want to take it further.
I have the most wonderful community around me. Absolutely unbelievable people that love and care for me, and almost most importantly, make it clear to me that that is the case. I don’t take that for granted.
For someone who is always moving at a rate of a million miles per hour, it’s difficult to share how God’s working in my life and to encourage them through that. If He is working in my life, He most definitely is working in yours. My hope is that by sharing these moments and stories, my friends and family will be encouraged to search for the ways God is working in their personal lives. Sometimes He makes it clear, sometimes you have to look, but He is always there. What a blessing it is to have a God who shows up every single day, regardless of how much we disobey Him.
So, that is what I am doing. I’m sharing every time I can. I’m hoping to start conversations and inspire others. This is a conversation, not a blog. If you read something you like, hate, or made you think - let me know. I want to talk.
God is faithful every single day. Every morning I awake, I experience that. He has provided everything I need and more. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.
So without further ado - welcome to my journal.
